The Argument About Release

Two thousand years of disagreeing about what freedom is

Almost every Indian school agrees that the point is to get out, and almost none of them agree about what you are getting out of, what does the getting, or whether anything is left afterwards. This walks down the subcontinent and through the argument, from the rivers of the Vedic hymns to a Kannada coast where somebody finally said the self stays separate from God forever.
